It looks like Polar Tank Trailer of Holdingford, MN will be the next manufacture to incorporate the use of duplex stainless steel in DOT-400 series tank trailers. Permit application 14573-M, published in the Federal Register on May 28, 2010, noted Polar’s request to “authorize the use of an alternative duplex stainless steel” material. Following Brenner Tank LLC’s introduction of the idea some three years ago in an effort to out-run the vertically rising metal prices and with their second version now rolling out, Polar has given chase.

Mineta Transportation Institutes' Report States the Obvious

The recent research and findings report of the Mineta Transportation Institute for the Department of Homeland Security is 95 pages of industry known "...duh" information. If your fleet has a solid Security Plan with training and enforcement, you are likely well ahead of these findings. It still doesn't hurt to revisit this information and refresh some of the obvious information and you may even be reminded of something you have not been implementing.

If your drivers are conscience of their surroundings and practice treating your equipment like its their new Porsche (don't leave it unlocked while unattended, don't leave it running while unattended, keep a tight lip on their commodity and trip information, etc), you will make it less attractive for your tanker to be stolen and the hot story on all the local and cable news outlets.
