CLINTONVILLE (KDKA) ― A tanker accident and chemical spill forced authorities to close part of Interstate 80 in Venango County near Clintonville.
The highway is closed westbound between Grove City and Clarion, according to KDKA's Alison Morris.
Officials say the driver of the tanker knew something was wrong but wasn't able to bring the vehicle to a stop for about a quarter of a mile.
The tanker split, spilling 4,200 gallons of hydrofluoric acid on the highway.
The truck picked up the load from a facility in eastern Pennsylvania. It was being taken to Ohio where it was going to be disposed.
It's not clear when the road will reopen. The DEP says crews will work through the night as necessary.
It's not clear at the time how the tanker split.
A driver and an emergency responder suffered minor injuries in the accident and they were both taken to the hospital.
No residents or drivers were in any danger at any time, according to 911 officials.
